My girlies.

Filed under: Family — Meagan @ 6:22 pm

Friday before last, Sophie had her graduation.  She was in a private half-day Kindergarten program (because our schools went full day Kindy this year and I wasn’t hip on that).  Being the horse fanatic that she is, she had to have her picture taken by the class horse barn.  I can’t believe my little girl will be in 1st grade next year!  Mama loves you, baby!

It’s been a while since I’ve shown off smallest girl, too.  She’s nearly 5 months old now.  Where does the time go?  She’s getting busy ~ playing with toys, putting things in her mouth, and making lots of noise. And she loves her big sister, which does a mama’s heart good.  She still looks just like Sophie…

Maybe I’ll have something more exciting to share soon, but for now this is it.  My girls are my life!

Warmly,
Meagan

My biggest girl…

Filed under: Uncategorized — Meagan @ 1:50 pm

My biggest girl had a huge milestone this morning:  Her first lost tooth!  She came out of the bathroom with the most radiant toothless grin.  It’s so tiny.  She’s so big.  It’s hard to believe that my baby isn’t exactly a baby anymore.  I am so blessed by her.

It’s all girl.

This dress, I love.  I bought this issue of Ottobre specifically for this dress and I’m not disappointed.  I had heard that this pattern was a bit of a challenge and needed some alterations in width, but I’m pretty happy with how it came out.  It’s actually tunic length, which will be perfect considering it’s intended purpose… It’s headed out to Julie of Selah.  She’ll dye some yarn to match it for Plumknits “Live this Life” event.  More info on that coming soon!

My new toy.

Filed under: Knitting — Meagan @ 9:48 pm

Oh, this is great fun. My new toy: A yarn swift and ball winder. Apparently I’d once told dh that these were too expensive to contemplate purchasing because he was surprised when I lifted them out of the box. whoops. No honey, they weren’t that expensive. And really, they weren’t. LOL I am sad though… I’ve almost wound all of my stash. Thankfully, I’ll have some new yarn on the way to wind soon. :D

I’ve only just begun knitting, so my stash is puny, but I have some yarn that I really love. Possibly too much… I can’t bring myself to knit any of it. Pictured here is a variety from Dashing Dachs (Goldfish on the swift, Matvey the Cat, Guppy, and Granny Smith. I also have a nice selection from Mama Blue: Sprout, Goldfinch, Snorkel, Antique Iris and a few others.

Maybe I’ll go get to work on that soaker… Maybe not. LOL

Baby’s First Dress

Filed under: Family, Sewing — Meagan @ 2:21 pm

I’ve sewn for Ellory, but this is her first dress.  I’ve had it on my to-sew list for some time and I was happy to get it sewn up.  It’s design #1 from the summer ‘07 issue of Ottobre.  I chose the 62cm pattern, but it’s a bit wide for my tastes.  Otherwise, I’m happy with how it came out.  The bodice/skirt piece of the pattern was like nothing I’d ever seen — very interesting design!  The fabric is a euro bird/floral print that was featured in a past Otto issue.  My friend Katie found it at her mill end and bought some for me.  (It’s great to have thoughtful friends.)

That’s it for today.  Have a lovely weekend!  :)

Time flies.

Filed under: Family — Meagan @ 6:48 pm

It’s hard to believe it ~ my baby is 3 months old already. It’s amazing how quickly the days turn into weeks, into months. And before you know it, years. I’m relishing the present today. Feeling thankful for all the good things in my life. My husband, my babies, my home, my family — all of it. I spent an hour walking through the cemetery today; I visited my grandma’s grave. She’s been gone one year St. Patrick’s Day. As much as I mourn her absence in my life, I am thankful that she lived a long, full life. Thankful that she was able to know her grandkids and some of her great grandkids. Not just know them, but to leave her legacy to them. Life is precious. But it’s also precocious. Live your life today, because you never know what tomorrow may bring. Let there be no regrets…

And now, for your viewing pleasure — my gorgeous baby. The one with all the hair. So much hair that on her 3 month birthday, she gets to wear a barrette for the first time.

The playroom that WILL be.

Filed under: Our Home. — Meagan @ 1:34 pm

We’ve lived in this house a little over three years, and prior to that, we ripped the whole house apart and then put it back together. Good as new. Had to be, as it’s over 100 years old. The playroom is something that’s been on “the list” for all that time, but never got precedence. The good news is, we have inspiration. Thankyouverymuch Pottery Barn.

The even better news is that we have that room. Okay, not that exact room, but close enough that it’s exciting. Even better yet is that work has finally begun on the playroom! Dh has started lining the walls with scrap paneling and progress is being made. We’ve decided to bunk a bed into the eaves on one side and last night we looked for lighting. Hopefully, Sophie will have her playroom this Spring!

Here’s the side that’s finished. It will be painted, of course, when it’s all said and done.

One last shot, showing dh working on that blasted angle. You can see the window here, too.

Hopefully I’ll be back soon with more progress!

Best,

Meagan

Just what every seamstress needs.

A giant pair of scissors. Need I say more? I think not.

I had great intentions of filling this page today, but I’m tired so I’ll just leave you with this little laugh.

Have a fabulous weekend

I suck at blogging.

Filed under: This and That, Knitting — Meagan @ 1:56 pm

I have the best of intentions, really, but I totally suck at blogging.  This is my second blog, the first of which I put to bed well after it’s time.  This one would probably suffer the same fate if it weren’t attached to my storefront, in which case I’m too lazy to remove it and it’s links…  So the better alternative is just to use it.  Or at least I resolve again to try to do so…

So much has happened in the last 13 months since I last posted, it’s little use to try to catch you up.  Save one small thing.  Or rather one small person.

Ellory Quinn, born 12/31/07, right on time (her due date).  She was 8lbs 6oz and 22″ long.  As of last week, she was 13lbs 6oz and 26″ long.  A regular flood which may bother me except that it’s all mama-milk, in which case how could I complain?  Really, there’s nothing to complain about.  She’s heaven to me.

3/15/08

Now, a little more fun…  I started knitting late last year.  Or rather, I started twisting wool around a couple of sticks.  Occasionally something useful and less than hideous results.  It’s been actually a few months since I picked up a pair of needles, although I did start a new soaker for Ellory the other night; we’ll see how long it takes me to complete.  However, after failing to dye my hands (not to mention some fiber) for the better part of last year, I did get break out my acid dyes last week and set out to stain a hank of wool.  The result was pretty far off base of what I was going for, but I like it nonetheless.  I’ve dubbed it “Woodland” which is a totally lame description, but I’m lacking in creativity this day, so the name is stuck.

Okay, enough for today.  I should do a few things before hubby and Sophie return from their errands.  I’ll try to be back.  {snicker}

Best,

Meagan

Not your typical Valentine…

Filed under: This and That, General Craftiness — Meagan @ 12:37 am

I think I’m coming in on this craze a little late, but I discovered how to make these adorable fabric fortune cookies!  A friend at Sewing Mamas posted a sew-along and I immediatly knew these would make perfect little tokens to include with orders.  Since I just stocked my store yesterday, I decided to quickly make up a batch to send along with orders.  With alentine’s Day is just around the corner, I made them in shades of red, tan and pink and included a sweet fortune.  I adore these!!!

Best, Meagan
