Seamstress in a RTW World…

My biggest girl had a huge milestone this morning:  Her first lost tooth!  She came out of the bathroom with the most radiant toothless grin.  It’s so tiny.  She’s so big.  It’s hard to believe that my baby isn’t exactly a baby anymore.  I am so blessed by her.

This dress, I love.  I bought this issue of Ottobre specifically for this dress and I’m not disappointed.  I had heard that this pattern was a bit of a challenge and needed some alterations in width, but I’m pretty happy with how it came out.  It’s actually tunic length, which will be perfect considering it’s intended purpose… It’s headed out to Julie of Selah.  She’ll dye some yarn to match it for Plumknits “Live this Life” event.  More info on that coming soon!

Oh, this is great fun. My new toy: A yarn swift and ball winder. Apparently I’d once told dh that these were too expensive to contemplate purchasing because he was surprised when I lifted them out of the box. whoops. No honey, they weren’t that expensive. And really, they weren’t. LOL I am sad though… I’ve almost wound all of my stash. Thankfully, I’ll have some new yarn on the way to wind soon.

I’ve only just begun knitting, so my stash is puny, but I have some yarn that I really love. Possibly too much… I can’t bring myself to knit any of it. Pictured here is a variety from Dashing Dachs (Goldfish on the swift, Matvey the Cat, Guppy, and Granny Smith. I also have a nice selection from Mama Blue: Sprout, Goldfinch, Snorkel, Antique Iris and a few others.

Maybe I’ll go get to work on that soaker… Maybe not. LOL

I’ve sewn for Ellory, but this is her first dress.  I’ve had it on my to-sew list for some time and I was happy to get it sewn up.  It’s design #1 from the summer ‘07 issue of Ottobre.  I chose the 62cm pattern, but it’s a bit wide for my tastes.  Otherwise, I’m happy with how it came out.  The bodice/skirt piece of the pattern was like nothing I’d ever seen — very interesting design!  The fabric is a euro bird/floral print that was featured in a past Otto issue.  My friend Katie found it at her mill end and bought some for me.  (It’s great to have thoughtful friends.)
